Booze is a good time

A wise man named Robb once said "Booze is a good time." Truer words have never been spoken. There is nothing like getting together with friends and having a few drinks. You tell a few stories or jokes, remember good times from the past & inevitably you start busting each other's balls. You could be in the dumpiest place, but as long as you're with good people you're gonna have a good time.

What is it about booze that makes you want to listen to music? The two go hand in hand. I love listening to either AC/DC, van Halen, old school hip hop and cheeseball 80's tunes. You know what goes well with drinking & listening to music? Air guitar. I got down with my bad self Friday night at a house party after my work's Christmas party. I had more of a good time at the house party because of the great tunes.
The people at the party joined in on the air guitar. It was contagious and we had fun. I just wished that someone joined in with the air drums. While on the air guitar topic here's a great link for those interested in turning professional.

Who will pickup where Chappelle left off?

I remember the first time I saw Dave Chappelle doing stand-up he had this bit with the police & innocent black men "just sprinkle some crack on him". I was hooked immediately. He was doing some edgy shit. Reminded me of how Eddie Murphy exploded back in the day.

All of a sudden he's on top of the world and then the pressure gets to him. It's a shame that he couldn't continue. I know he has his reasons, however I just want to see him do his thing. Last year I went down to Ypsilanti Michigan to see him and he talked about his fleeing to Africa and the things that the media was reporting. It was cool to see him laugh at himself. Dude went for 3 hours! It was awesome. I was wiped out afterwards from laughing so much.

I hope that he gets to do his own show the way that he wants to because the world needs more of Dave Chappelle's comedy.

More wrestling

I don't know about anyone else that grew up watching WWF wrestling growing up, but whenever I hear Hulk Hogan's theme music "Real American" my hair stands on end. Thank you Rick Derringer for doing this song.

http://www.angelfire.com/extreme4/faith6/HulkHogan.wav

It's really stupid but I think it brings back such good memories.

In case you were wondering about the lyrics:

When it comes crashing down, and it hurts inside,
ya' gotta take a stand, it don't help to hide,
Well, you hurt my friends, and you hurt my pride,
I gotta be a man; I can't let it slide,
I am a real American, Fight for the rights of every man,
I am a real American, fight for what's right, fight for your life!

I feel strong about right and wrong,
And I don't take trouble for very long,
I got something deep inside of me, and courage is the thing that keeps us free,
I am a real American, Fight for the rights of every man,
I am a real American, fight for what's right, fight for your life!

Well you hurt my friends, and you hurt my pride,
I gotta be a man; I can't let it slide,
I am a real American, Fight for the rights of every man,
I am a real American, fight for what's right, fight for your life!
I am a real American, Fight for the rights of every man,
I am a real American, fight for what's right, fight for your life!

I welcome the day that wrestling gets back to the height it had in the 80's

Wrestling

I used to be a huge fan of the WWF/WWE when I was younger. I still check it out from time to time to see what passes off as wrestling or sports entertainment these days.

I remember waiting with bated breath for every Saturday Night's Main Event on NBC. I've been soured on wrestling ever since Owen Hart fell to his death from the top of the Kiel Center in St Louis. I think that Vince McMahon was trying too hard to compete with WCW and that ultimately cost Owen & others their lives (directly or inderectly)

I used to marvel at the athleticism of the big guys and the bumps they took as well as the trash talking during their interviews. This is when wrestling was entertaining. Now it's more porn & Howard Stern type programming than anything. I enjoy some T&A (especially T see my post from Dec 6) but this is my soap opera featuring some pretty cool feats of strength. It's like drama class meshed with gym.
Let's call it Adult Gym. Although that would probably better suit the Olympics than anything but I'm going to use it regardless.

These guys are killing themselves doing stunts that some pro stunt men would never do. I don't know if it's an ego thing, drug thing, or an "I'm showing the boss that I should get paid more" thing.

This means working through the pain and taking painkillers & illicit and illegal drugs in order to perform.

Rick Rude, Brian Pillman, The British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith, Road Warrior Hawk, Mr Perfect Curt Henning, Hercules Hernandez, Big Bossman, Eddie Guerrero. Most of these were heart failure due to drug abuse.

I loved wrestling and am still a mark for Hogan, Piper & Flair Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! But I hope the rest of the guys realize (like Kurt Angle did) that they should escape the ring with their lives. Kurt jumped ship to TNA because of the less hectic work schedule. The WWE does 200-300 shows a year + autograph signings & other BS. These guys are humans too.
I remember going to Algonquin College in 2002-03 to watch Jim 'The Anvil' Neidhart, Hacksaw Jim Duggan & King Kong Bundy doing some indy show. These guys are probably in their 50's and their doing pictures & signing autographs for $5-10 to make a living. Kind of sad but you gotta do what you gotta do eh? All three guys are huge in stature. I can just imagine how much food these guys need to ingest just to maintain their size. These guys were having a tonne of fun wrestling in this little house show on a piss-poor ring in the middle of a Canadian college.

Being at that show was great. No fancy fireworks just a crappy sound system for the entrance music, the wrestlers & the ref. Old school wrestling & mat work. That day was a good day for wrestling. I hope to see more of this in the future.

And for those who think wrestling is stupid, well it is and I enjoy it because it is my guilty pleasure.

Andy Pettitte back to the Yankees

Brilliant move Cashman bringing Pettitte back after letting him go to Houston (along with Clemens who said he retired). Andy only went 21-8 for you in 2003. What do you do instead of signing him? You sign Gary Sheffield instead. Sure he's a great player but he's a greater headcase; why do you think he's been on so many teams throughout his career? Albeit he was tame while in the pinstripes, the last thing the Yankees needed was another overpriced bat (see unfrozen caveman lawyer errrr I mean Johnny Damon). The Yankees do well every year but they will never win another World Series without great pitching. Chien Ming Wang stayed in New York instead of travelling with the team after his start at home against the Tigers. Why wouldn't you work your best pitcher on shorter rest when you're in a must win game? You have plenty of time during the off-season to rest your arms. The club's management is treating them like they're pussies. The Diamondbacks rode Johnson & Schilling hard in their World Series win. Why not do the same?

I'm getting off topic here. Pettitte was a great pitcher for the Yanks and maybe bringing him back will bring him to the top of his game, which is where he was before leaving (I hope so). However he is turning 35 next year and should be on the downturn of his career. But maybe working closely with Clemens he's picked up some tricks that will preserve his pitching skills & prolong his career (steroids).

Looking forward to this season and hopefully doing a roadtrip with the guys to Yankee stadium & Fenway. I hate the Sox but I gotta get to a game in Boston & New York before I croak and before 2009 when the Yankees new stadium will open.

Here's to hoping the Yanks make some noise in the post season next year.

Applebee's

My friend Ben had a brilliant idea the other day on a Friday afternoon. We all hop in the car and hit Applebee's in New York state for Happy Hour. Half priced apps & cheap ass beer. Better fucking believe that it makes for a Happy Hour. I just had a craving for their awesome chicken wings and cheap beer. The only place that offers something like would be in the province of Quebec.

In Ontario they're too fucking uptight so there cannot be 2 for 1 beers or anything of that nature. I work in Quebec so there's Happy Hour pretty much everywhere. Last night I hit Le Bistro I had 3 beers. I cost me 6 dollars!!! I also believe the Stella on tap is $3.50 a pint. Unbelievable. I do not know how they stay in business. I could have stayed there all fucking night and not blow more than $50. Are you fucking kidding me? Did I jump in time machine that brought me back 10 years?

I've also been buying my beer in depanneurs or grocery stores in Quebec. The past couple of times I paid under $26 for a case. Albeit they were on special. But then I stock up and sell the rest. That's at least a 10 dollar savings. If I need beer and there's nothing else decent on sale in Quebec I'll go buy the cheap stuff. That way if I don't drink it and it goes skunk, I don't feel too bad.

Twisted Christmas

The other day I wrote about how I hate Christmas. But I picked up Twisted Sister's A Twisted Christmas on Saturday.

This album makes it a little bearable and for that I will give them a plug

never go out of style

Fucking Christmas

Whenever I go the mall I wanna kill. Hearing Christmas carols playing in the stores, in the mall, over the loud speaker when you're in the shitter, drives me mad.

I worked enough retail in the past to effectively tune it out. But now it's a different story.
Isn't this whole Christmas thing over-the-top? I'm just wondering what are Jews, Muslims & other non-Christians say about all this Christianity being shoved down their throats?

All this commotion over some Jewish carpenter born over 2000 years ago.
